Chowhound got its 5,000,000th posting today.
I can't believe the thing's still up and running. Nearly all our 1997 cohorts have vanished or been co-opted.

Like so many things in life, the character and personality of an enterprise reflects those who run it. In the "Jim Leff" era, through the force of your vision and mission, Chowhound attracted those who actually knew a thing or two about food and focused their culinary energy on finding humble establishments that produced extraordinary food with love and care. Now, sorting through the multitude of posts, it takes a lot of work to separate the wheat from the chaff. The quality of the posts isn't much different from Yelp.
