I'd be extremely happy to sit day after day helplessly watching huge chunks of my savings evaporate if that were the only alternative to doing this guy's job!

I had a similar response a few years ago when I was unemployed. Walking across the Queensboro bridge I saw a man sitting on top of one of the Roosevelt Island tram as it dangled over the East River. I was gratified to know that there was one job, I would not consider applying for no matter what my skills.
